Known in Jamaica as Soursop. Scientific name Graviola/Guanabana The leaves of the Soursop {Graviola) the tree has been used in Jamaica for its medicinal properties for many years. The leaves of the Soursop are brewed to treat inflamed mucus membranes or to facilitate the discharge of mucus from the nose, throat, and lungs. Locals use the leaves to help regulate blood sugar for patients with diabetes, to treat cough, flu, and asthma.
Soursop can effectively combat parasites, tumors, and a wide range of common health complaints. In tropical Africa, soursop is used to help treat coughs, pain, and skin disease. A 2015 hypertension study found that a tea made from soursop leaves decreased blood pressure without adversely affecting heart rate. Soursop leaves are perhaps most famous for their cancer-fighting potential.
